Suki removes filler words (ex. um, ah)
It’s best practice to explicitly speak all punctuation, particularly periods.
When dictating ranges, include units of measure (e.g., "from 100 mg to 200 mg") to ensure the word "to" is used instead of a dash

To prevent audio dropouts and connectivity issues, please ensure your environment meets these standards before dictating.

1. Hardware & Performance

Device Performance: Use a reasonably modern computer. Avoid using underpowered laptops or devices that are heavily overloaded with open applications.
Resource Management: Close unnecessary applications during dictation—especially CPU-heavy apps like video conferencing tools (Zoom, Teams) or large background downloads.
Audio Input:
- Use a stable, known-good microphone (e.g., a wired USB headset or high-quality dedicated mic).
- Avoid frequently switching inputs (e.g., swapping between built-in mic and headset) in the middle of a session.

2. Network Stability

Connection: Prefer a wired ethernet connection or strong, stable Wi-Fi.
Roaming: Avoid switching networks (e.g., moving from Wi-Fi to Cellular/Hotspot) while dictating.
VPN: Avoid connecting or disconnecting your VPN while a dictation session is active.

3. Software Conflicts (Dragon / DAX)

Single Source of Truth: Do not run Nuance Dragon, DAX, or other dictation software simultaneously with Suki.
Action: Quit/Exit other dictation tools completely before launching Suki. If your organization requires both, please coordinate with your IT department to ensure they do not compete for the microphone.

4. Browser & Permissions for Browser based sessions

Microphone Access: Chrome must have permission to access your microphone for Suki and Meditech.
- Go to: chrome://settings/content/microphone
- Ensure the Correct Input Device is selected (not a disabled webcam or wrong driver).
- Ensure Suki and Meditech are listed under "Allowed to use your microphone."
Page Support: The embedded mic will only appear on Meditech Expanse pages configured to support the MSpeech API. If the mic is missing on a specific screen, it may be a configuration limit of that specific EMR page, not a bug.

Before Starting (Start of Day / After Lunch)

Check Environment: Ensure Chrome is up to date and you are logged into the Suki Extension.
Clear Conflicts: Confirm Dragon/DAX is closed.
Fresh Start:
1. If your Meditech tab was open overnight or during a break, Refresh the page (Ctrl+R or Command+R) before starting.
2. Note: The embedded mic often will not appear if the extension was updated while the page was already open; a refresh resolves this.
Quick Test: Click the mic icon in a low-risk field (e.g., a comment box) and dictate a short phrase to confirm text appears.

During Dictation

Keep It Active: Keep the Meditech browser tab active and in focus while dictating.
- Avoid: Minimizing the browser or switching to another tab (e.g., checking email) while the mic is still running. This causes Chrome to "throttle" the connection, leading to audio disconnects.
Prevent Sleep: Do not close your laptop lid or lock your screen while the mic is active.
Avoid Long Silence: If you are not speaking, turn the mic off. Leaving the mic open during long periods of silence (especially on unstable networks) can lead to "socket disconnections."
The 20-Minute Rule: If you leave Suki/Chrome idle for 20–30+ minutes:

Background Noise Captured During Dictation
Disable interim text: ≡ Menu > Settings > Show Interim Text → Off
Accuracy of Specific Words
If a word is being transcribed incorrectly, add the corrected term to your personal vocabulary.
